STAT177 Assignment #4

Your assignment is to collect data and test a hypothesis. You decide what data to collect and how you’re going to collect it. You also decide what hypothesis to test. The only restriction is that you must collect at least 30 pieces of data.

For the assignment, you must do the following:

§ State what data you collected and how you collected it.

§ Put the data in a table. If it is a test about proportions, simply state the number of trials and successes.

§ State the hypothesis you are testing in English.

1) What is the appropriate test for your data? State all the reasons why this is the appropriate test for your data. (2 marks)

2) Test your hypothesis at a 5% level of significance. State the value of the test statistic and the conclusion. (2 marks)

3) Construct a histogram of the data with appropriate titles and labels. It may first be necessary to construct a frequency table or crosstab from which you would create the histogram. (2 marks)

4) Are there any factors that could have changed the conclusion you reached in question 2? State the reasons. (2 marks)
